拍品描述:Mauritius/Singapore Piefort Mule in Copper 1824, Pridmore 2. This has the corrosion and environmental damage that the Mauritius Piefort 25 Sous has. It also has the die break through the date that the Pridmore example had. The obverse is the SINGAPORE side; within a circle the crest of the arms of the E.I.C. The motto AUSPICIO REGIS ET SENATUS ANGLIAE 1824 is struck around and outside the circle. The reverse is the MAURITIUS side. In the center circle "pour 50 Sous" is seen. Around and within another circle "RECU AU. BUR: DU TRES:" is struck. An angular border separates the outer circle and the rim. Pridmore calls this a die trial on a copper flan. The reverse is a pattern prepared in the Calcutta Mint from a design suggested by John Crawford, the Resident of Singapore for a proposed 1/3 Cent to be used in Singapore. In 1924, restrikes from the original dies were struck at Calcutta: one in gold, two in silver, and four in copper. It would make sense that this is one of these restrikes because of the die break through located in the date. However, Pridmore's example of the Singapore pattern 1/3 Cent, Pr-1, was described as an original issue and it ALSO had the die break. We therefore cannot be sure when this was actually struck, 1824 or 1924. We CAN be sure of the rarity of this coin and we are very happy to offer this in our sale.
