拍品描述:Penang. British Administration Tin Pice c.1805, KM9, Pridmore 22, G.F. in script within a plain circle. Countermarked with the Chinese character Ch'i, which means paid in advance, or advance payment. The reverse side is blank. According to Pridmore, these were locally cast at Penang. The initials are interpreted to mean 'G'overnor 'F'arquhar. This tin coinage was introduced into circulation in 1805. The Chinese countermarks are those of the Treasury or Bazaar Shroff, and were intended as a guarantee for the correctness of the quality and weight. There is very little, if actually any, wear on this piece, but the planchet is slightly bent. The Pridmore example, in similar grade, sold in 1982 for £2,300 and we note that a well circulated example sold for £1,300 in an English auction a few years back.

拍品描述:Penang British Administration Tin Pice c.1805, KM-9, Pridmore 22, G.F. in script within plain circle, uniface as issued. Countermarked with the Chinese character Ch'i, which means paid in advance, or advance payment. These were locally cast in Penang and the initials are interpreted to mean 'G'overnor 'F'arquhar. The countermark is that of the Treasury or Bazaar shroff, and were intended as a guarantee for the correctness of the quality and weight. There is very little actual wear, but the planchet is slightly bent, which was likely caused when the counterstamp was applied. The Pridmore example sold for 2,300 Pounds back in 1982, and we note a well-circulated example brought 1,300 Pounds at auction a few years back.
